How Janet's Skincare Journey Started
Janet is a skincare and beauty enthusiast, her mother influenced her on skincare when she was younger. Janet noticed problems with her skin and started to use St Ives skincare products to get rid of her spots. When Janet started university she started purchasing the ‘Simple’ skincare range. Janet would experiment with different brands and would learn more about her skin and find out what products work best for her and what doesn't.
What are your current skincare favourites?
My current skincare favourites...on the note of toners ‘SkinStore US PCA Skin Hydrating Toner’. It's so hydrating for my skin especially when I finish cleansing my skin, it refreshes my skin and doesn't irritate it. The Paula’s Choice Omega + Complex Serum. It's got Chia Seeds in them and a lot of ceramides. For me that's really good for my skin barrier, especially within the drier months now. My number 1 goal is to make sure my skin barrier is intact and this serum has really helped me with making sure my skin barrier is where it needs to be! Those are my two main skincare favourites at the minute, there are loads more.

What is one skincare item you can’t live without?
SPF sunscreen! I can't go a day without using SPF. I feel mortified if i don't use it.
What skincare item will always be in your bag?
Recently it's been a mist. I have dehydrated skin so I can be out and 30 minutes later my skin is bugging me. When I spray it on my skin it goes back to zen mode. My skin is just balanced again. So a mist is something that's always been in my bag.

What was the first beauty product you ever owned?
St Ives invigorating scrub was the first product I started to experiment. I didn't really know much about skincare. I just thought this has to be doing something for my skin. I thought I was looking glowing… that's all I knew.
What is your morning and evening skincare routine?
In the morning I use cleanser, a toner, two serums and then a moisturiser and then SPF. If I do like I'm overloading my skin too much then I skip out the moisturiser and just jump right into SPF. For example, Black Girl Sunscreen that's my favourite, because it is moisturising and it does have the SPF factor as well so I can afford to skip my moisturiser.
My night time routine Whereas, in the night it's mainly treating my skin. In the evening I use products to combat my hyperpigmentation. I use a cleanser, a toner, a serum and then I use an essence and then I would use my treatment. I then I use ‘Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence’ and then I use my moisturiser and then top it off with oil and then go to bed.
What skincare product do you run out of the quickest?
SPF! By the morning I would have put the 2 finger rule then reapplied three hours later and then two weeks later it's done again or a week later sometimes.
What is your biggest skin concern?
With my skin my main concern is hyperpigmentation, dark spots. I always want my skin to be as even as possible.
Best piece of skincare advice you can share?
Start slow, look and understand your skin. Look at your skin and figure out what your skin needs. For example, If I notice that my skin is oily, I know that I need to focus on products that are for oily skin instead of just buying anything and everything.
I love all my skin influencers however everything they say works for their skin, obviously take the advice but don't take everything that they say as I must use every product that they use, because at the end of the day they are trying out different products that is the role they do. But for you as an individual start slow, do basic routines even if it's just a cleanser, a toner and a moisturiser or even just a cleanser, moisturiser and SPF and build your routine up from there instead of buying every single thing at once and just putting it on your face.
What is your worst beauty habit?
I know I'm not supposed to pop my spots... But there are some spots where the puss is really hideous its literally calling me! That's one habit I know that I need to stop doing. There are spots that I'm just like you know what, I'm going to get a dark mark anyway...so i just pop it.
What is the latest skincare product you bought?
Within lockdown I've bought a serum ‘Hadalabo JAPAN Skin Institute Gokujun premium hyaluronic solution’.
